Read our ‘How We Review Casinos’ page for a detailed description of our evaluation process. It is the process I followed for this HugoBets review, which is organized into six sections:
- HugoBets’s licensing, responsible gambling, and security
- Bonuses and offers from HugoBets
- Payment methods accepted by HugoBets
- HugoBets’s game selection
- The user experience at HugoBets
- Popularity of HugoBets
HugoBets’ licensing, responsible gambling, and security
Starting my HugoBets review at the place we begin all of our casino reviews, with the casino’s level of safety, I take a look at HugoBets’s licence, responsible gambling page, and overall security.
| Legal gambling age |
|---|
| The legal gambling age in most Canadian provinces and territories is 19 years old (in Alberta, Manitoba, and Quebec, though, it is 18), meaning online casino operators must verify every player’s age to ensure minors do not gamble. Each province and territory is regulated provincially. For example, gambling in Ontario is regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Visit our Licensing page for more information. |
HugoBets’ licences
HugoBets’ website says that it has a licence from the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission, but the link to the certificate yields an “Invalid Certificate” page. I connected with the casino, which informed me that the link was indeed out of date and that the casino has a different licence altogether. They then provided me with the link to its certificate:
- Curaçao Gaming Control Board – Licence No. OGL/2024/1191/0663
Responsible gambling in HugoBets
HugoBets does a reasonable job with its responsible gambling page. The page is clearly written and organized, and includes the following resources:
- Basic responsible gambling advice
- A short self-assessment test
- Links to help organizations
- Self-exclusion and cool-down periods
- Daily, weekly, and monthly deposit limits
HugoBets includes some great resources and good tools, but it also misses things. For example, while committing the casino to zero tolerance for underage gambling, HugoBets does not provide players with links to parental control filters, like NetNanny.
I would also like to see a more substantial self-assessment test, or a link to a more substantial one.
The deposit limits are great, but what about setting limits to losses, wagers, and session lengths as well? HugoBets could add reality checks, too.
That’s a decent amount missing.
| Addiction risk: play responsibly |
|---|
| While casino games are meant to be fun, gambling can become addictive and lead to harmful consequences if players do not play responsibly. With this in mind, we encourage players to look out for signs that might indicate problem gambling: – Chasing losses – Playing for longer than intended – Gambling with more money than intended – Disguising gambling activity from other people – Borrowing money to gamble If you recognize any of these signs, consider contacting any of the following help organizations: – ConnexOntario (1-866-531-2600) – Gamblers Anonymous Canada – Gambling Therapy |
What makes HugoBets safe
I found a good list of strong security measures listed on HugoBets’ website:
- SSL encryption during data transmission and storage
- Restricted access to authorized personnel only
- Regular security audits to identify and address vulnerabilities
- Compliance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
- Data Protection Officer
- Clear Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
My rating of HugoBets’ licensing, responsible gambling, and security
HugoBets is safe for players in Canada, even if a couple of important items could be improved.
| What I checked | Score | Why this score? |
|---|---|---|
| Licences | 4/7 | Finding information about HugoBets’ licence was difficult, given that the information on the website is incorrect. Once we attained the proper information, though, it was a reliable licence. |
| Responsible Gambling | 4.5/7 | The responsible gambling page at HugoBets offers decent resources and tools, but also misses plenty at the same time. |
| Security | 5/6 | HugoBets provides easy-to-read security information in easy-to-find places. I did not find an Anti-Money Laundering policy, though. |
| Costly misses to an otherwise safe casino |
|---|
| HugoBets offers a safe casino, even if the verification link to its licence appears to be invalid. That costs some points, though, as does the fact that the casino could improve its responsible gambling page, leading to a 13.5/20 grade. |
Bonuses and offers at HugoBets
Let’s check in on the casino bonuses HugoBets offers players in Canada. Here, I have my HugoBets review inspect the casino’s welcome bonus, any regular offers, the available tournaments, and its VIP program.
| Bonus risks |
|---|
| Players should be aware that bonuses come with wagering requirements that must be met to gain the bonus money. Often, they require players to bet the bonus amount 30 or 40 or more times over. Over 80% of players lose money with casino bonuses. |
HugoBets’ welcome bonus
When it comes to casino welcome bonuses, HugoBets’ welcome bonus might be one of my favourites.

New players can claim a 100% wager-free welcome bonus of up to $1,000 and 150 free spins with their first three deposits of at least $20!
There are no wagering requirements for the bonus money, and winnings from free spins come with only 1x wagering requirements.
Here’s how HugoBets’ welcome bonus looks across the three deposits:
| Deposit | Match % | Amount | Free Spins | Slot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 100% | up to $300 | 50 | Book of Dead |
| 2nd | 100% | up to $350 | 50 | Le Bandit |
| 3rd | 100% | up to $350 | 50 | Fire in the Hole 3 |
I think it’s obvious why I like this welcome bonus so much: the terms are just sick. Come on: no wagering for the bonus money! And only 1x for the free spins?! Amazing.
Sure, I’ve seen larger amounts, and even better match percentages (although at 100%, HugoBet’s match isn’t weak), but the terms are never, and I mean never, this good.
And then HugoBets even gives players free spins on some entertaining slots, too.
Like I said, “sick.”
Regular bonuses
There are two weekly bonuses available from HugoBets to players in Canada. One is a free spins offer, and the other is a reload bonus. Both follow the lead of HugoBets’s welcome bonus, to apply no wagering requirements to the offers. Here’s what they look like:
- Cosmic Spins Challenge: Every Thursday, players can claim up to 150 free spins on Book of Dead. A minimum deposit of $50 receives 50 free spins, and a minimum deposit of $100 receives 150 free spins.
- Friday Reload Bonus: Every Friday, players can claim a 100% bonus of up to $200 with a minimum deposit of $20.
Players should note that the bonus money and winnings from free spins are immediately considered cash (hence, they are “no-wager” bonuses), but like all deposited funds, they must be wagered at least 1x before being withdrawn. Players have 30 days to meet those requirements for both of HugoBets’ above bonuses.
Promotions and tournaments
I did not find any available tournaments during my HugoBets review.
HugoBets’ VIP/loyalty program
HugoBets VIP Club works over 5 ranks and 50 levels. With cashback bonuses of up to 25%, exclusive promotions, and level-up bonuses, the program is packed with VIP casino bonuses.

In addition to the VIP Club, the casino offers the Hugo Orbit Program, a three-tiered reward system (Bronze, Silver, and Gold Orbits) that includes Welcome Boosts, birthday rewards, anniversary bonuses, accelerated withdrawals, a dedicated VIP manager, invitations to exclusive events, and more. The casino isn’t very clear about how the Orbit Program works with the VIP Club, though.
My rating of bonuses available at HugoBets
I kind of want to give HugoBets more points for its incredibly friendly bonus terms.
| What I checked | Score | Why this score? |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome Bonus | 7/7 | I mean, with no wagering bonus money and only 1x wagering for the free spins, HugoBets is offering something special here. |
| Regular Offers | 3/4 | HugoBets doesn’t have many regular offers, but it does have 2 weekly bonuses that come with no wagering requirements. There were no tournaments available. |
| VIP/Loyalty Program | 3.5/4 | Like other bonuses, HugoBets’ VIP Club is an excellent package of rewards and benefits. The details could be clearer, though. |
| Arguably better than great |
|---|
| HugoBets arguably deserves a higher grade than this 13.5/15, because the casino’s bonus terms are so friendly. |
Payment methods at HugoBets in Canada
There was a limited number of casino payment methods accepted at HugoBets in Canada, although the options included some of the country’s most popular methods. Noticeably missing is Interac. These are the payment methods HugoBets accepts in Canada:
| Payment Method | Min Deposit | Max Withdrawal | Average Deposit Time | Average Withdrawal Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Visa | $20 | $10,000 | Instant | 3 business days |
| Mastercard | $20 | $10,000 | Instant | 3 business days |
| MiFinity | $20 | $10,000 | Instant | 3 business days |
| Apple Pay | $20 | N/A | Instant | N/A |
| Revolut | $40 | N/A | Instant | N/A |
| Financial risks |
|---|
| This is a reminder that gambling involves real money and, therefore, financial risk. Casinos do not open their doors without being favoured to win, which means most players lose over time. This is a reminder to set limits before playing and only gamble what you can afford to lose. |
Minimum deposit and withdrawal processing times
The minimum deposit at HugoBets is $20, and the minimum withdrawal is $40. The maximum withdrawal is $10,000, which is great. Withdrawals are typically processed within 3 business days, which is decent.
Cryptocurrency accepted at HugoBets in Canada
HugoBets accepts the majority of Canada’s most-used cryptocurrencies, although I could only see how to withdraw crypto, not deposit with it. These are the coins I found for withdrawals:
- Algorand
- Ripple
- Dash
- Tron
- EOS/Vaulta
- Bitcoin
- Bitcoin Cash
- IOTA
- Zcash
| The dangers of using cryptocurrency |
|---|
| Players should note that using cryptocurrency comes with risks. Cryptocurrencies are highly volatile, with their values oftentimes fluctuating rapidly. The Government of Canada, the Bank of Canada, or other financial institutions do not back crypto; it is not stable nor guaranteed, which leaves users vulnerable to losing large amounts of money. We strongly recommend setting financial limits and investing only what you can afford to lose. |
Step-by-step guide on how to withdraw from HugoBets:
- Click the blue “Deposit” button at the top right.
- Select the “Withdraw” tab.
- Choose the payment method.
- Enter the withdrawal amount.
- Complete any other requested information based on the chosen withdrawal method.
- Click “Withdraw.”
Other important information to know when withdrawing from HugoBets:
- Wagering requirements must be met to withdraw.
- All deposited funds must be wagered 1x before withdrawing.
- HugoBets may require you to complete identity verification before approving your withdrawal, which would include providing an identity document (i.e., driver’s licence, ID card, residence permit, or passport) and verification of your address (i.e, a bank statement or utility bill).
My rating of HugoBets’s payment methods
HugoBets could accept more fiat payment methods and cryptocurrencies for depositing; otherwise, the casino does pretty well when it comes to payment methods.
| What I checked | Score | Why this score? |
|---|---|---|
| Payment Options | 3.5/7 | HugoBets accepts several of Canada’s most popular payment methods, but not Interac. The number of acceptable withdrawal methods could be improved, too. |
| Minimum Deposit & Payment Processing Times | 3/4 | HugoBets’ minimum deposit and withdrawal amounts are decent, as are the processing times. |
| Cryptocurrency | 3/4 | The casino accepts a long list of cryptocurrencies, but I couldn’t see how to deposit with any of them at HugoBets; I could only withdraw with them. |
| More options are needed |
|---|
| HugoBets doesn’t do poorly, but it could use more fiat payment methods, in particular, Interac, and it should accept cryptocurrencies for depositing; hence, HugoBets earns a 9.5/15 rating here. |
HugoBets’ games selection
Turning my HugoBets review to the casino’s game selection, I’ll look at HugoBets’ online slots, live casino, game shows, and game providers.

| Casino games warning |
|---|
| Players need to keep sight of the fact that casino games are a game of chance. While licensed games are tested by third parties for fairness, they are also weighted in favour of the casino. Most players, therefore, lose over time. It’s why we like to remind players that casino games are a form of entertainment, not a way to make money. |
Recommended slots you can play at HugoBets
HugoBets has a well-balanced library of online slots, despite it not being the largest selection. I wish there were categories for megaways slots and bonus buy slots, but there is a category for crash games, and the casino has some top choices (like Aviator and Spaceman).
These are a few of my favourite online slots at HugoBets in Canada:
- Phoenix DuelReels
- Sweet Bonanza 1000
- Daruma Impact
Quality live dealer tables at HugoBets in Canada
While there is no organization of HugoBets’ live casino, the offerings are certainly of good quality, with excellent options for roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and poker. Still, some organization would be appreciated.

Game shows you can play at HugoBets
Players cannot filter for game shows in HugoBets, but there is a Pragmatic Play game shows menu, which does allow players to find some big hits like Sweet Bonanza Candyland, Treasure Island, and Snakes & Ladders Live.
Popular game providers HugoBets works with
HugoBets works with a short list of less than 20 game providers in Canada. The curated list consists of heavy hitters, like Evolution, Play’n Go, Hacksaw Gaming, Red Tiger, Playson, Habanero, Nolimit Gaming, NetEnt, and Yggdrasil.
My rating of HugoBets’s games selection
HugoBets has done a good job curating its game library, even if it isn’t the biggest, nor the most organized.
| What I checked | Score | Why this score? |
|---|---|---|
| Games Variety | 5.5/7 | HugoBets does not offer the largest selection, but it is well-curated. The library could use better organization, too. |
| Live Casino Experience | 3/4 | HugoBets doesn’t have the largest live casino, but it does offer a quality variety. More organization would go a long way to improving the experience. |
| Game Providers | 3/4 | It’s a short list, but HugoBets works with some of the industry’s top studios. |
| Good choices |
|---|
| HugoBets provides players with good game choices. It doesn’t provide players with the most choices, and it doesn’t organize them very well either, but they are good choices, worth an 11.5/15 rating. |
User experience at HugoBets
Here, I turn to the overall user experience at HugoBets. I examine the casino’s customer support, website navigation, and mobile device functionality.
HugoBets’ customer support
HugoBets has a live chat button that brings players to a list of FAQs. I could not figure out how to initiate a live chat. The casino states that the chat is available from 10 am to 11 pm (CET), but I tried at 5:40 pm CET, 6:30 pm, 8:10 pm and 9:20 pm, and found zero help.
It took some time to find HugoBets’ email address, but I did. The casino has a few social media accounts as well.
| Contact: | Average Answer Time | |
|---|---|---|
| [email protected] | 24-48 hours | |
| live chat | Allegedly available between 10 am and 11 pm (CET) | Unknown |
| https://www.facebook.com/hugobets_official | 12 hours | |
| https://www.instagram.com/hugobets_official | 24 hours | |
| Twitter/X | https://www.x.com/hugoBetsReal | N/A |
User navigation at HugoBets
HugoBets offers a pretty typical layout, with a main menu on the left and game categories across the top of the page. As usual, legalities are found in the footer.

As I’ve already pointed out, HugoBets could use improved organization of its game library. While it is useful to search by providers, I think players want to be able to search by game type, which HugoBets does not accommodate very well. The casino has clearly organized its promotions – why can’t it do the same for its games?
HugoBets’ mobile experience
The mobile experience of HugoBets is just like the experience on a desktop computer. In fact, the mobile version is slightly easier to navigate because a condensed main menu is added at the bottom, allowing players to jump from casino to live casino to sports to promotions with the touch of a button.
HugoBets is fully optimized, but it does not have a mobile app, the way many of the best mobile casinos in Canada do.
My rating of HugoBets user experience
HugoBets says it has live chat support, but not based on my experience.
| What I checked | Score | Why this score? |
|---|---|---|
| Customer Support | 3/7 | Despite the casino stating otherwise, I could not find any live chat support. There is a limited FAQ section in place of a chat. HugoBets has an email address and a few social media accounts. |
| User Navigation | 3/4 | HugoBets has a familiar layout, but could use improved game organization. |
| Mobile Experience | 3.5/4 | HugoBets has a fully optimized website, but it does not have a mobile app. |
| What chat? |
|---|
| A lack of live chat support hurts an otherwise fine user experience, worth 9.5/15 here. |
Popularity of HugoBets
The final section of my HugoBets review gives the public some influence on the casino’s final rating, as I turn to Trustpilot, social media, and other online sources.
| What I checked | Score | Why this score? |
|---|---|---|
| Player Reputation | 3.5/10 | HugoBets is new, so there were zero reviews on TrustPilot, and I could find nothing on Reddit either. No matter where I checked, players aren’t talking about the casino. It gets points only because no reputation is better than a bad reputation. |
| Market Visibility | 5.5/10 | Considering HugoBets launched less than 2 months ago, it has done a reasonable job of getting its name out there. The casino has several social media accounts (albeit with few followers and even fewer posts), and it has been reviewed several times by industry publications. The casino still has a lot of work to do, especially with user reviews, and the rating here is ultimately sympathetic to the casino’s age. |
| Well, it’s new |
|---|
| It’s difficult for new casinos to score well in this section, and HugoBets’ 9/20 attests to that fact. |
Hugo makes a decent bet
Where HugoBets does well, it really does well.
The casino’s welcome bonus is an absolute draw, mainly because of the friendly terms, but it’s giving players the type of casino start we all really want. Those friendly terms seem to seep into every aspect of HugoBets’ bonus program, with weekly offers coming with similar, no-wager conditions. It’s something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before, but, boy, do I like it!
I was also fairly impressed with HugoBets’ game library. It isn’t the largest library I’ve ever seen – in fact, it’s supplied by a relatively small group of game providers – but the casino has done a great job to curate a fruitful selection with a lot of big hits and plenty of exciting titles. It could use some organization, but the content is top-notch.
And where HugoBets doesn’t do well, it also really doesn’t do well.
The casino offers a live chat function, but it does not provide any live chat options, so there actually isn’t a live chat, only an FAQ page. The mistake with the casino’s licence is a bad look, but I was told they would be updating that soon.
HugoBets lists loads of acceptable payment methods on its Payments page, but the cashier doesn’t offer half of them. I could not figure out how to deposit with cryptocurrencies. The banking seemed messy.
I have yet to find a perfect online casino in Canada, though, and the HugoBets bonus program is really something to behold. The criticisms I have are easily fixed.
My HugoBets review concludes with a 66.5/100 final rating.
