What happened when we played for real money

The game opens with a Reel Kingdom splash screen, then the soundtrack kicks in, and it kicks in hard. The music fits the theme, but the default volume is on the loud side. Thankfully, it’s a couple of clicks to turn down.

We started at the minimum $0.10 per spin. Five spins, nothing. Ten spins, nothing. We held the space bar for turbo spin and kept going, and at almost 20 spins the reels still hadn’t paid a single line, low pays included. For a medium-volatility game with a 1 in 7.42 hit frequency, that’s a long silence.

The first win came shortly after, flagged on screen as a big win. It was $1, or 10x our stake, and a few more spins nudged the balance to $1.50. Still nowhere near break-even.

We raised the bet to $0.20. Two scatters landed, the cauldron started bubbling, and for a moment the bonus looked close. It didn’t happen. By the end, we’d played more than 40 spins for about $6, without a feature or another win worth mentioning.

OPINION: Pace yourself on this one

I like the look of this game, and the Halloween touches are fun without being forced. My issue is the base game. More than 40 spins with one real win is not what I expect from medium volatility. Missing the bonus in that time is par for the course at 1 in 111, but the lack of small line wins in between stung.
