BCLC Enacts Photo ID Requirement at Casinos
Players to provide ID Verification to enter casinos
Several weeks ago, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation announced that guests must present a photo ID before entering its establishment. This announcement aims to enhance its player protection program GameSense and assist players experiencing gambling addictions. The new entry requirement kicked off on Monday, June 26, 2023.
Players facing gambling problems can enroll in Game Break, an initiative created by BCLC to let them exclude themselves from gambling activities in B.C. They can do this by temporarily participating in programs allowing them to abstain from B.C. gambling establishments or PlayNow.
New Entry Requirements Effective
Effective Monday, individuals must provide government-issued photo identification before entering a casino. The security staff will scan the IDs and check against the Game Break database. This will ensure that self-seclusion students can’t enter the facilities.
Pat Davis, the president and CEO of BCLC stated that players have been informed about the changes in entry requirements through several awareness programs. In promoting responsible gambling, BCLC CEO also reminded that residents can still access support tools, free treatment, and prevention programs via Gambling Support BC.
Improved services in 2023
BCLC has made several improvements this year in providing an enhanced gambling experience to players. With a three-year partnership with Intralot, the company will get retail sports betting technology supplies. This will help expand retail sportsbooks across the Western Canadian province.
BCLC also partnered with Everi Holdings Inc. earlier in 2023 to gain access to it’s cutting-edge Everi Compliance Anti-Money Laundering solution. Crown incorporated this solution with this partnership across its land-based and digital gaming activities. Over 600 online gambling sites are already using this technology.
Secure Online Casinos in Canada
If you would rather play online, here are some secure online casinos we recommend you try out in Canada:
Gambling Awareness: Staying in the Green
At CanadaCasino, we believe that the best way to enjoy online gaming is to stay informed and in control. In the Canadian market, gambling should always be viewed as a form of paid entertainment, much like a movie ticket or a hockey game—never as a source of income.
The Golden Rules of Responsible Play
To keep your experience positive, we recommend following the Lower-Risk Gambling Guidelines developed by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction:
- Set a Hard Budget: Only wager what you can afford to lose. Once that “entertainment fund” is gone, it is time to log off.
- Time Management: Use your phone or casino tools to set session timers. It is easy to lose track of time when you’re on a roll.
- Avoid “The Chase”: Trying to win back losses is the most common pitfall. Accept a loss as the “cost of play” and walk away.
- Play Sober and Focused: Never gamble when you are stressed, upset, or under the influence of alcohol or substances.
If you ever feel that gambling is no longer just entertainment, it’s important to know that help is available. Independent organizations like GambleAware provide free, confidential advice, tools, and support for anyone looking to understand their gambling habits better or seek professional help.
